Enkitec - Oracle One-Sheets

November 10, 2008

The Client:
Enkitec is a Dallas-based information technology services firm specializing in Oracle. Their database consultants average 15 years of hands-on Oracle experience, making them some of the most knowledgeable Oracle experts in the country. They offer services in Oracle Database Administration, Oracle Application Development and their unique On Call Service – an innovative offering that provides remote services for Oracle Systems. With a rare mix of development and database administration expertise, Enkitec has the ability to step into the largest, most complex environments and instantly make an impact.

Situation:
Enkitec requested that we create one-page sales collateral pieces for four of their offerings, basing each upon existing white papers.

Objectives:
The primary challenge in this project was taking the technically-oriented white papers – which averaged six to seven pages – and parsing each one down to a single page while maintaining the most important points. Oh, and do it all in accessible language, too. Secondly, Enkitec didn't have an existing brand color palette or identity guidelines. Therefore, we would need to create a consistent look and feel that meshed with their existing logo.

Strategies & Tactics:
Strategically, we reviewed the white papers and researched materials on each topic from Oracle and the competition. We then talked with members of the target audience to gain additional insight. After writing the first draft, we went back to those individuals for feedback. After incorporating their input into a second draft, we moved to design.

Aesthetically, we created a color palette based on the blue in Enkitec's logo. This palette was used in all four pieces which, along with layout and photography style, yielded a consistent, identifiable look across all four pieces. To our knowledge, this was the first time Enkitec incorporated photography into their collateral. We think it's quite attention-getting, if we do say so ourselves. At this point we showed it to the client for the first time.

Results:
Enkitec was thrilled, primarily with the "astoundingly few edits" they said were required as compared to working with their former agency. They're hard to impress the first time. But then again, we're pretty hard to impress internally - before the client ever sees it. So that worked out.
